The person behind it
Hi, I'm Karter.
I build and run the office that works quietly behind a busy life, so the people I work with can hand off the paperwork without ever handing off control.
A short version
I'm finishing a dual degree at the University of Notre Dame in Global Affairs and Film, with a minor in Finance. The combination is deliberate.
Global Affairs trained me to read complicated systems. Film taught me to find the clear story inside a mess of detail. Finance gave me a real respect for other people's money, and the discipline never to be careless with it. That is exactly what a personal office asks for: part operations, part judgment, and a great deal of trust.
The job is to take the pile of documents, statements, and deadlines that quietly runs a person's week and turn it into something calm they can act on, without ever putting their files or their money at risk. I've worked in a few very different rooms to learn how to do that well.
Where I've been.
Dual major in Global Affairs and Film, minor in Finance
An intentionally broad foundation: systems thinking, clear storytelling, and financial discipline in one place.
Two-week startup sprint
A focused stint embedded with an early-stage team, learning how a young product actually gets built and shipped under real pressure.
AI on real estate data
Worked on applying AI to property and real estate data, on a project centered in Puerto Rico.
Branch assistant
Supported a busy branch day to day, where accuracy, discretion, and trust with people's money were the whole job.
Why I built Vellum
I built the first office for my own family. Watching someone I love lose hours to paperwork that no app actually solved is what convinced me this should be a service, run by a person who is accountable, not just another piece of software.
